Tsavo is famous for hosting Tsavo East National Park which was opened in 1948 and is one of the world`s largest game reserves, home to a vast array of wildlife species such as buffalo, baboons, African hunting dogs, rhino, mongoose, jackal, dik, cheetah, elephant, hyena, leopard and lion, among others. It is also one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya at 13,747 square kilometres.
Situated in a semi-arid area previously known as the Taru Desert it opened in April 1948, and is located near the town of Voi in the Taita-Taveta County of the former Coast Province. It also hosts Tsavo West National park which offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephant, rhino, Hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, Buffalos, diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler.
