Mombasa package - North Coast

7 Days 6 Nights

Mombasa is a regional, cultural and economic hub; it has an extra-large port and an international airport, and is an important regional tourism center. It is a melting pot of languages and cultures from all sides of the Indian Ocean, which waits like an exotic dessert for travelers who make it to Kenya’s coastline.

Having more in common with Dakar or Dar es Salaam than Nairobi, Mombasa’s blend of India, Arabia and Africa can be intoxicating, and many visitors find themselves seduced by East Africa’s biggest and most cosmopolitan port despite its grime and sleaze, which somehow only adds to the place’s considerable charm. Indeed, the city dubbed in Swahili Kisiwa Cha Mvita – the Island of War – has many faces, from the ecstatic passion of the call to prayer over the Old Town, to the waves crashing against the coral beaches below Fort Jesus and the sight of a Zanzibar-bound dhow slipping over the horizon.

Tour Itinerary

Depart from Nairobi to Mombasa by a means of your own choice (SGR OR Flight). Transfer to your hotel from the place of arrival. Check in at the hotel and then freshen up. After you have taken your lunch you can relax at the beach as you enjoy the cool breeze of the ocean waves.

Pick up from your hotel and proceed to Fort Jesus. Your day takes you down an intriguing maze of cobbled narrow streets, ancient mosques and picturesque residential houses evoke the islands medieval past, overhanging balconies and through mysterious doorways to bustling markets filled with exotic spice, fruit and colorful fabrics. Then drive through the Elephant Tusks on Moi Avenue and call in at the Akamba woodcarvers, where you can see the carvers at work and a great opportunity to purchase some of the wonderful crafts and other souvenirs of your stay in Africa.

Have a lunch break. You can have lunch at Tamarind Restaurant (own expense) -Non Seafood & Veg options available). In the afternoon, visit Dr. Rene Haller's Nature Park (Haller Park), former quarries now reforested and home to many wildlife including hippos, giraffes, buffalos, and antelopes, crocodiles as well as smaller mammals and birds. The Park consists of a Game Sanctuary, Reptile Park, a small demonstration Fish Farm area, Palm Garden, Crocodile Pens and a Giraffe viewing platform, offering a variety of attractions. The diversity of vegetation is considerable, from mangrove palms and majestic indigenous shade trees to coastal forests where several of these plants are rare and endangered; a haven for botanist. Yet each plant plays an important role in the overall harmony of the ecosystem. Later return to your hotel.

You will spend this day at your own leisure in the beach. Enjoy the serenity and the peace that comes with it. You also have the option to choose water sports and Mombasa excursions at an extra cost. Lunch and Dinner will be served at the hotel.
